What I don't really understand is why he's such a mainstream icon producer.

Could it be something to do with "confirmation"?

He is only mainstream in that he is on the BBC, he was there when they used to tell the truth, do actual journalism & real in depth documentaries, maybe they can't get rid of him ? He has circumvented the propaganda & "nudge unit" crap by going arty & cryptic, this looks even more arty & cryptic than "Bitter Lake" was.

Cheers

Gotta find a download of this that I don't have to sign up for Suspect

I can't help. If I use iPlayer I'll be in trouble, as a non TV licence payer.

I wrote to them a couple of years ago to ask why the BBC promotes private companies like Facebook and Twitter. I said I thought there were rules against that kind of thing. The reply I got was pure twaddle.

Well I finally found it via "alluc" (google it) and have so far watched the first 52 minutes and its fkn genius, nothing like Bitter Lake, it's direct like his work on the Mayfair Set.

It's  a "must watch" IMO

About 3 quarters of the way through this now.

There are some nasty chunks of dissinfo in this thing. I think I've answered my own question now.

edit:
Got to the end and must say, it's got fascinating old footage and has some equally fascinating ideas presented but oh maaan, is it loaded with misdirections for under researched viewers who'll probably think it's brilliant, and pat themselves on the back for being smart enough to understand it.

Bottom line, it's propaganda for intellectuals and academics. Still well worth watching though.

I use "Ant video downloader" it's an addon for mozilla firefox, the only thing it doesn't seem good on is youtube, I use another downloader for that (gives options like quality & mp4/mp3 etc)

Curtis mentioned my favourite film too, Stalker by Andre Tarkovsky Banana
