Amazon’s annual shareholder meeting is coming up very soon -- and the e-retail giant is trying to stop us from organising to protect its workers.

The company is quickly edging towards market domination. But behind closed doors, Amazon workers suffer: they regularly work 80 hour weeks with poor pay, and face random sackings to keep them on their toes.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

We have submitted a shareholder resolution demanding that Amazon vastly improve its working conditions. But Amazon’s already lobbying its shareholders to vote against it.

The majority of investors vote on resolutions before the actual meeting -- so we need you to back the resolution now. If we can make our voice louder than Amazon’s, we can drown out its hollow claims about being an ethical employer -- which are simply not true.

Can you sign the petition and stand with Amazon workers now?

Amazon staff work in a punishing environment -- hours are long and impossible targets are set. The unpacking, movement, and repackaging of goods is relentless, and increased to levels that employees struggle to meet. It also has a ruthless “three strikes and you’re out policy” -- where staff who do not meet these targets are sacked straight off the bat.

Sadly, many of us use Amazon, or know people who do. Yes, it’s hard to resist the ease and convenience the e-retailer offers.

But this is what makes us powerful. As consumers, Amazon will listen to us, but only if we make it hard for the company not to. That’s why we need to show Amazon that there’s a growing movement of people out there demanding change now.

From the very beginning, the SumOfUs community has stood up for workers’ rights. In fact one of our very first campaign wins was getting major high street retailers like Zara and H&M to sign the Bangladesh Fire Safety Accord after thousands of workers died from preventable factory disasters.

These victories wouldn’t have happened without hundreds of thousands of us coming together and speaking out, tarnishing these retailers’ brands. Now, that’s what we have to do with Amazon.
